The headline act
Effy. Currently rated among the best specialty shops in the entire country — not the East Midlands, the country. Wollaton Park run first (deer, hills, and Batman's actual house from The Dark Knight Rises), then this. Nottingham's proudest one-two.
The roasters
Cartwheel Coffee. Café and roastery in one, part of the specialty explosion of 2016, roasting in-store on an innovative electric roaster. Watch your beans get roasted while your heart rate settles.
200 Degrees, Flying Horse Walk. This is where it all started — three people in a garage on Meadow Lane in 2012, now twenty-plus shops nationwide. The original site remains the pilgrimage.
The supporting cast
The Speciality Coffee Shop. Does exactly what it says, and has since 2016 — a city-centre stalwart of the scene.
Wired Café Bar. One of the established players that made Nottingham a coffee city before it was fashionable.
Pair it with the run
Nottingham's miles: Wollaton Park's deer-lined loops, the Embankment along the Trent (flat, fast, rowers for pacing), Forest Recreation Ground's parkrun — one of the country's oldest — and Colwick Park for long-run Sundays. The Trent path to a city-centre espresso is the classic Nottingham finish.
The rules
The Wollaton deer are faster than you and unbothered. Cake past 10K: mandatory. Rowers on the Trent are your free tempo pacers — use them shamelessly. Recruits drink on the refer-a-friend fiver.
