Opening hours shuffle around constantly, especially at weekends — check before you set the alarm. Nothing ruins a long run like sprinting toward a closed shutter.
By the station
Pink Lane Coffee. The Toon's specialty stalwart, seconds from Central Station. Quayside run, bridge photos, flat white — the order of operations matters and this is it.
The city centre
Laneway & Co. Australian-style, high-ceilinged, and consistently rated among the North East's best. Post-Town Moor, it's the correct destination.
Tiny Tiny. Formerly Flat Caps Coffee — probably Newcastle's first-ever specialty shop and still one of its finest. Small name, big pour, deep local respect.
The newcomers
Filto. Opened in Sandyford in 2024, added a second site inside Fenwick on Northumberland Street in early 2026 — the fastest-rising name in Newcastle coffee. Jesmond Dene run, Sandyford finish, filter in hand.
Pair it with the run
Newcastle's running canon is genuinely elite: the Quayside loop under seven bridges (do it at dawn and keep the skyline to yourself), the Town Moor — bigger than Hyde Park and Hampstead Heath combined, with cows as marshals — Jesmond Dene's waterfall valley, and the coast run from Tynemouth along Longsands. This is the city that hosts the Great North Run; the post-run coffee culture has had decades of practice.
The rules
The Town Moor cows have right of way and know it. Quayside wind doesn't count against your pace — effort stands. Cake past 10K: mandatory, stottie optional but respected. Recruits drink on the refer-a-friend fiver.
