Aberdeen
The Cult of Coffee. Widely held to be the granite city's best — especially for filter, with an ever-changing bench of guest roasts. The name understands the assignment.
Foodstory. The local institution, now a small family: the original café, Foodstory Uni and the Foodstory Hut — all named in the latest Scottish Independent Coffee Guide, which put six Aberdeen shops on its list in one go. The city's scene is having a moment.
Faffless. Does what the name promises: excellent coffee, zero faff. The efficient post-run transaction, perfected.
Figment & Mount. The new wave — Figment made the national guide, and Mount pairs specialty coffee with a lifestyle store in the heart of town for runners who cool down by browsing.
Pair it with the run
Aberdeen's running is underrated and knows it: the beach esplanade from Footdee to the Don mouth (two miles of sea wall, wind optional but usually mandatory), the Deeside Way heading inland on the old railway line, Duthie Park and the winter gardens, and Aberdeen's beachside parkrun for Saturdays. Beyond the city, Aberdeenshire is castles, coast and Cairngorm foothills — every direction is a long run with a view.
The rules
North Sea wind is a strength session; log it as such and never against pace. Cake past 10K: mandatory — a buttery (rowie) is the local discharge of the obligation and an experience in density. Recruits drink on the refer-a-friend fiver.
